Tribute to Marshal Bowman
Saturday, February 1 at the historic Woman’s Club
Join our local history buffs in paying tribute to Marshal John Bowman, who was assassinated in Punta Gorda on January 29, 1903. His murder started a chain of tragedy that extended to the *probably* innocent man who was convicted of his death.
Join us on Saturday, February 1, starting at noon in the historic Woman’s Club. Speakers include Theresa Murtha from the Punta Gorda History Center, and historian columnist, Frank Desguin. There will be a break for pizza, ice cream and refreshments. The afternoon will end with an auction of art and antiques to raise funds for the family of Sergeant Elio Diaz (end-of-watch Dec. 15, 2024). The memorial events will include a candlelight vigil and a grave site cleaning prior to the main event from noon to 4 PM.
