Sightseeing Tours of Punta Gorda

Southwest Florida Walking Tours is dedicated to promoting one of Florida’s most charming historic towns – Punta Gorda.

We have three distinctive tours this season:
the Wednesday Long Lunch Tour, the Saturday Haunts & History Tour,
and our newest offering, Casper’s Capers.

This beautiful Royal Poinciana tree is on West Retta Esplanade.

On this historic site was built the very first home in Punta Gorda, a modest shack belonging to Madison Lanier and his pioneer family. In 1897, Punta Gorda’s first millionaire, Perry McAdow, built an elaborate party home on the same site. Marian McAdow traveled the world to collect exotic tropical plants and designed a world-class garden, of which the banyan tree is the sole survivor.

After his death, the McAdow home was converted to Bayshore Lodge, which sadly was demolished to build a Holiday Inn in 1966. At time of writing, the land is back to its literal roots.

This old hotel is gone!
No more parking lot, no more hotel, just a beautiful view of the harbor!
